The Company and People

BalanceTech, LLC
BalanceTech, LLC (Balance) was created to develop real world applications of the research work of Dr. John S. Anderson. Our primary goal is to provide automated tools and support which facilitate and improve the decision making process.

Research suggests humans can only process about seven pieces of information at a time. Yet we often make decisions which involve many more than seven criteria and alternatives. To help decision makers get a balanced view of a decision, the criteria and the alternatives, John developed an automated decision matrix.

Automation of the decision process and the matrix have proven useful in many settings. Different versions of the software have been and are being developed in the fields of resource management, environmental planning, land-use planning and fire management. Balance is committed to providing powerful yet easy-to-use decision management tools to address the needs of our customers.

Dr. John S. Anderson
John received a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Oregon and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Montana State University. He has spent approximately 15 years researching ways to organize and automate planning, design and decision making processes. He would like to help decision makers get a balanced view of a decision. In addition to his work with decision making, he has experience in automating collection of data in the field, data base development and programming in multi-media environments.

Susan Anderson
Sue received a BA in Business Administration from the University of Montana and an MBA from the University of Oregon. Sue holds a CPA license. She practiced public accounting for four years and has been teaching accounting, business management and environmental issues in business courses for the last 9 years. While having a great respect for costs and figures that are easily expressed in numeric terms, Sue realizes that most difficult decisions include a qualitative component. She believes that this qualitative component needs to be expressed in some way that is meaningful to decision makers and allows it to be considered side by side with the quantitative information.
